Paddington has a rich history that is well worth exploring. This suburb of Sydney was named after the Victorian-era railway station in London, built by one of the directors of the Australian company behind it. The name came about because he found on his explorations two kangaroo paw trees (Anigozanthos mangles), native only to western parts of Australia at that time; local Aborigines called them paddock trees due to their ability to grow on infertile soil—a fitting name for the area as it is now known for its expansive parks and gardens.
